Abstract
Some people consider that computers are really quite stupid machines because the programmer must tell the computer exactly what has to be done, down to the smallest detail. The instructions that are given to it, therefore, need to be comprehensive (so that nothing is missed out) and logical (so that the tasks will be done in the correct sequence). We will now look at a familiar activity as an example to build up a sequence of instructions that will enable someone to carry out a simple task: making a cup of coffee. That is a simple activity isn’t it?
