Abstract
Performance measurement has been a central plank in the drive for value for money and accountability in public services. As we suggested in the previous chapter, it is largely through mechanisms of performance measurement that evaluation has become integral to new forms of public sector management. In this chapter we appraise the nature of these developments and explore them for the scope they offer in developing evaluation for good practice.
