Summary

This paper presents an enhancement to a reduced event simulation approximation technique. This allows the modelling of engine manufacturing systems consisting of a straight transfer line feeding into an assembly loop. Restrictions imposed by having a limited number of pallets in the assembly loop are also modelled. An example presented in the paper shows that the reduced event technique provides high quality solutions in a much shorter time than discrete event simulation. By using this technique, engineers will be able to model complete engine manufacturing systems. They will thus be able to quantify the benefits of any changes to the whole manufacturing system.
