By the end of this chapter you will be able to:

  • understand the basis of how humans receive input through the five senses;

  • be familiar with the human visual system, from eye to brain;

  • understand the relationship between the visual system and perception;

  • have a working knowledge of the auditory system; and

  • understand basic concepts relating to smell, taste, touch and kinaesthetic feedback.
