Abstract
As Turkish pressure for admission to NATO grew, the matter began receiving greater attention in Washington. On 9 September 1950 the Joint Chiefs of Staff directed a memo to the secretary of defense indicating the reasons behind their disagreement with Turkish inclusion in the pact.
