Abstract

In Mali, as in other Sahel countries, considerable efforts have to be undertaken in the field of health development. In 1987, life expectancy at birth was estimated to be 46 for men and 49 for women. The infant mortality rate was as high as 169 per thousand. Total population amounted to 8 million (World Bank, 1989).
