Abstract

The aim of this book is modest. It does not attempt to cover political and economic development of the region in great depth. Instead, it is an introduction to the main issues and debates concerning the politics and political economy of the countries which make up the area. In particular, it offers, in an interdisciplinary fashion, the tools for analysis of the models of development in the region and their evolution through the twentieth century to students hitherto unfamiliar with the region.
