Abstract

In this chapter, I’ll discuss the architecture of the X Window System and how it enables graphical user interfaces for Linux and Unix-like operating systems. I’ll also show you how to configure the X Window System to meet your needs, and I’ll introduce the GNOME desktop environment and explain how to use the GNOME Display Manager (GDM) to create remote X sessions.
