Recent Developments in Langmuir-Blodgett Films Containing Fullerene Derivatives

Peptide-derivatised fullerenes

  • Chapter
Advanced Macromolecular and Supramolecular Materials and Processes

Abstract

As a consequence of the detection of the fullerene series by Kroto et al.1 and their consequential production in large amounts and by an easy procedure at the beginning of the nineties thanks to Krätschmer contribution,2 great interest has been concentrated on the investigations of the physical and chemical characteristics of these innovative materials. A considerable impulse to these examinations was given by the discovery of the superconductivity at high temperature which occurs when fullerenes are doped with alkali metals.3
