Abstract

A lens placed in front of a detector that images the objective onto the detector. The image of the objective is a uniformly illuminated circle that does not move as the image of the object moves due to seeing or to tracking errors. The use of a Fabry lens therefore reduces the noise arising from such sources. Its use is also advantageous when using a detector, such as a photomultiplier, whose sensitivity may vary over the detector area.
