Abstract

Post baby-boom consumers expect ever-increasing levels of service, and their expectations are small compared to the expectations their computer-age children will have when they start earning real disposable income within a year or two. So enterprises must redesign their business processes to increase operational efficiencies and customer service. New technologies create new ways of delivering service, such as the Internet, which the successful enterprise must exploit at least as well as its competitors. Globalisation increases competitive pressures from overseas. Structural changes such as mergers and acquisitions, downsizing, outsourcing, and dis-intermediation all create organisational challenges.
