Abstract
The hazards of obstetric anaesthesia are unique in that they concern two persons, the unborn child and the mother. The hazards for the unborn child are a reflection of the anaesthetic techniques employed, which in recent years have tended to confer marginal benefits to the child at what some may consider an unjustifiable cost to the mother in terms of awareness during delivery.
