The Clinical Workstation: Integrating an Academic Health Center

  • Chapter
Strategies and Technologies for Healthcare Information

Part of the book series: Health Informatics ((HI))

Abstract

The triumvirate mission for most academic health institutions includes patient care, research, and medical education. These institutions differ from community hospitals in that they are generally more complex and require more advanced communication networks and methods for capturing patient information from multiple systems. In addition, there is a broader audience of system users and an institutional commitment to integrate the information technologies (IT) to support the patient care, research, and education mission.
