Abstract
The technology infrastructure is the underpinning for all information system (IS) initiatives in a healthcare organization. Changes made in the business processes to anticipate and react to changes in the market are highly dependent on software implementations; in turn, these implementations are highly dependent on technology infrastructure. In other words, if the technology infrastructure is not comprehensive and robust, the future viability of the healthcare organization is in jeopardy. It is crucial, therefore, that non-IS business managers have an appreciation and understanding of the fundamentals of information technology infrastructure.
