Part of the book series: Applied Mathematical Sciences ((AMS,volume 114))

Abstract

We will use the conventional order symbols O and o as a mathematical measure of the relative order of magnitude of various expressions. Although generalizations are straightforward, we will restrict attention to scalar functions u(x; ∈) of the n-vector independent variable x = (x 1 , x 2,…, x n ) and the scalar parameter ∈. The x i will vary over some specified domain D and ∈ will lie on the interval I: 0 < ∈ ≤ ∈1.
