Abstract

In this paper we review certain key isolation schemes for insect neurohormones, with an attempt to gain a perspective on the methods previously used, on the relative abundance of various neuropeptides, and how parameters such as in vitro metabolism of neuropeptides impact on planning their isolation. In addition, we briefly review key principles for isolation of neuropeptides first developed for vertebrate neuropeptides, and how experiences gained by researchers in these systems can improve efficiency of isolation of insect neuropeptides. Our review of the literature is selective rather than comprehensive.
