Abstract
In medicine, as in nature, modalities that promote healing of diseased body cells may be modified to destroy tissue. Physical agents may prompt anabolism or catabolism, soothe or irritate, sedate or stimulate nerves, slow or speed circulation, and retard or hasten growth of microorganisms, as well as cause physiochemical, electrochemical, and photochemical alterations.
