Abstract

In recent years it has been demonstrated by many investigators that various growth factors such as epidermal growth factor,1,2 platelet-derived growth factor,1 transforming growth factor B3 and especially insulin-like growth factor (IGF;4,5) can modify the action of the gonadotropic hormones on the differentiation and activity of the ovarian granulosa cells(GC). For reviews see references 6–8. In addition, recent evidence suggests that proteinacious substances that are produced in the ovary can modulate the follicular response to gonadotropins.9
