Abstract
The evaluation of LEED spot profiles is extended by including the interference between scattering from clean and adsorbate covered surfaces. In this way the growth of incommensurate Ag islands on Ge(111) 2×8 is analyzed providing growth mode and scattering parameters including the phase shift. Also the faceting due to heating of a misoriented Ge(111) with submonolayers of Ag is studied in the same way. It is shown that quantitative analysis of growth and ordering is now possible for inhomogeneous surfaces as done so far with homogeneous surfaces.
