Abstract
When compared to imaging in the central nervous system, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has not progressed as rapidly due to the excellence of Computed Tomography (CT) in the chest and abdomen. In particular, the latter is able to display mediastinal structures, hila, and pulmonary parenchyma in a highly efficacious manner. CT of the abdomen is an established method in the evaluation of patients with focal liver masses, and in staging the abdomen in patients with known or suspected carcinomatosis secondary to gastrointestinal tract or genitourinary malignancies. CT relies on standard x-ray criteria in the detection of bony metastases.
