Discussion of Different Kinetic Models for Explaining Experimental Results in Cationic Micelles

  • Chapter
Surfactants in Solution

Abstract

In this paper, we discuss the validity of different theoretical approaches, based on the pseudophase kinetic model, for explaining our experimental results in presence of cationic micelles of N-cetyl-N,N,N-trimethylammonium bromide, chloride, hydroxide and cyanide (CTAB,CTAC,CTAOH and CTACN), for different reactions with positive, negative and nonionic substrates. We also analyze the association of hydroxide ion to spherical micelles, using the non- linearized Poisson-Boltzmann equation and have used this approach to fit our kinetic results in CTAOH and to study the influence of the different substrates in the binding of OH-to micelles.
