Abstract
In the previous chapter, an arbitrary division was designated between the immediate postanesthetic period (up to 24 hours postoperatively) and subsequent time period. This chapter will deal with postanesthetic and postoperative problems which are likely to become mainfest more than 24 hours after surgery is completed. Several examples of postoperative morbidity are included which may be only indirectly related (or not related at all) to the anesthetic management. It is important, however, to be aware of their possible occurrence so that the patient may receive appropriate evaluation and care, and so that the anesthetic technique is not incorrectly implicated as cause of the morbidity.
