Abstract

Programmers and managers of all kinds of workstations in CAD/CAM, engineering, office automation, computer-aided instruction, and programming environments can benefit from the principles of effective, systematic graphic design (visible language programming) applied to output formats and to screen interfaces. The following paper summarizes some important points that have emerged from three years of active involvement in designing computer graphics for a variety of systems and many different kinds of users. Although the discussion emphasizes high-resolution, dynamic interface screen design issues, the principles in general apply to static laser printer, dot-matrix, and plotter output as well. The final section of the paper outlines a future development scenario for system development firms in order to acquire expertise in visible language programming.
