The Use of Somatosensory Evoked Potentials in Neurosurgical Practice

Abstract

Changes in evoked electrical activity of the brain are related to critical reduction in cerebral blood flow both in man and primates (Trojaborg and Boysen 1973; Branston et al., 1974). Somatosensory evoked potentials following median nerve stimulation have been found useful to monitor cerebral ischaemia (Symon et al., 1979; Hargadine et al., 1980), following subarachnoid hemorrhage and intracranial aneurysm surgery.
