Abstract

Glycosaminoglycans (GAG) were isolated biochemically in normal and neoplastic urinary bladder epithelium and the results compared to those of histochemical investigation. The results showed that histochemical stains are not specific for GAG, that normal urothelial epithelium contains only traces of GAG and that transitional cell carcinomas contain GAG, whose composition differs from connective tissue GAG.
