Peptides Containing Probable Transmitter Candidates in the Central Nervous System

  • Chapter
Peptides in Neurobiology

Part of the book series: Current Topics in Neurobiology ((CTNB))

Abstract

Peptides in the CNS are characterized by their (1) low overall concentrations, (2) high potency, (3) marked specificity, (4) both transmitter and hormonal-like properties, (5) content of potential transmitter candidates, and (6) apparent low rate of de novo synthesis in vitro.
