Short Communication: Measurement of Alignment Tilt in Twisted Nematic Displays

Abstract

The development of a twisted nematic display for an electronic watch is a problem in total system design involving materials, fabrication and electronics. In this short communication we concentrate on the technology of molecular alignment which has much influence on display performance. A technique suitable for mass production is required which reliably provides uniform quiescent alignment and freedom from induced domains of reverse tilt. To develop such a process, we have investigated the oblique evaporation method of alignment1,2 by measuring the direction of molecular orientation with a “magneto-capacitive” method.
