Abstract

An investigation of the final radius of G.P. zones during isothermal ageing of an Al-Zn 10% alloy quenched from 350ÂșC has been carried out by resistivity measurements and X-ray small angle scattering. A decrease in the zone size at increasing ageing temperature has been observed. This unexpected result has been correlated to the decrease of the total number of jumps made by the solute, during the time of annihilation of the quenched-in vacancies.
