Abstract
Despite the building of a knowledge base about evidence-based addiction treatment, and the growing emphasis on moving EBP into the field, efforts to do so have not always been successful. Federal and State initiatives, and consensus reports from prestigious scientific bodies such as the National Academy of Sciences, have emphasized the need for the addiction treatment system to expand and sustain the use of EBP in order to improve client outcomes. However, a number of challenges exist for doing this effectively. In this chapter, we describe some of these challenges and summarize various federal, state, and other efforts to disseminate information about EBP, improve treatment processes, develop performance-based standards, and encourage adoption of EBP in the addiction treatment system.
