Abstract
The aim of our study was to perform an objective evaluation of ultrasonic images in order to help physicians diagnose cardiac rejection. This diagnosis is difficult to make due to the possible lack of clinical symptoms. Ultrasonic imaging is based on reflection and diffusion of ultrasonic impulses through the target organ. The echo structure is highly related to the acoustical properties of insonified tissue. Because of disturbing factors such as noise, speckles, medium and frequency dependent attenuation, and multiple echoes, ultrasonic images are very different from optical ones. They are strongly textured and, therefore, can be described with textural features.
