Abstract
Results obtained on SSC strand made from both 309 mm and 355 mm diameter billets at IGC are described. In the interest of meeting very stringent quality assurance criteria, and to ensure high current densities and long piece lengths, many elaborate fabrication steps have been introduced in recent years. As full scale production approaches, the economic impact of these many steps becomes of increasing importance and they are now being reexamined. Scale-up is one of the more obvious ways in which cost reduction can be accomplished and the plans which have been made to affect such scale-up are briefly indicated.
