Abstract
We split a laser beam: one part is sent through a nonlinear optical medium and is subjected to phase modulation, and the other part travels through a linear medium. When the two beams recombine, interference occurs. An example of such a device where the medium is fiber optics was described in Chapter 2 (see Figure 2.5). Here we consider another device described in Figure 5.1.
