Abstract

This is performed on a vertical press, where one half of a heated steel mold is attached to a stationary platen and, the other half to a moving platen. A specific amount of material is loaded into the stationary half and, upon closure of the mold, heat and pressure are applied which shapes the material to the contours of the mold: the excess is forced out between the flash lands in the form of flash. After sufficient time has elapsed for a chemical reaction, or cross-linking, to take place (cure time) the mold is opened and, the component/s removed by a suitable ejection method.
