The Distribution of Drugs and Other Agents in the Fetus

  • Chapter
Developmental Toxicology

Abstract

Most chemical agents pass from the mother to the fetus but to differing extents and at different rates. The majority of those which damage the fetus are likely to cause their adverse effect directly in the fetus — in the tissues which are affected. Evidence for this is that a number of substances accumulate selectively in the critical fetal tissues.
