Abstract
Blood is a unique tissue in that it is both easily biopsied and easily separated into its major component parts. Because of these characteristics a wealth of biochemical information concerning those components has accumulated. In terms of lipid chemistry the extent of this information as well as the major differences in the biochemical patterns and physiologic behavior between the various components have necessitated the organization of this tissue into four major divisions.
