Abstract

I have rashly volunteered to review a subject to which I have not contributed, my excuse being a long-standing interest in the mechanisms of transmitter release, and a more recent feeling that the most widely accepted version of the vesicle hypothesis, however attractive it may be, is not the only one worth considering.
