Abstract
Stromafree, non nephrotoxic hemoglobin solutions have become a subject of great interest in recent years, since in all cases where a rapid normalization of a disturbed oxygen transport to tissues is required, the theoretical advantages of hb-solution, as compared to whole blood or conventional plasma substitutes are obvious: Unlimited supply and storage, no risk of serum hepatitis, chemical O2binding, and low viscosity. To evaluate its effectiveness in vivo the changes in tissue PO2 of various organs have been investigated in extreme hemodilution with hb-solution.
