Abstract
This paper focuses on social correlates associated with success at the time of discharge from treatment. The population studied was composed of alcohol and drug abuse clients who were receiving substance abuse treatment in publicly supported facilities within a large Eastern state. Using three different criteria of success and controlling for important variables, it assesses the relative importance of several demographic characteristics in predicting treatment success.
