Abstract

The performance of a battery at a given load is to a considerable extent determined by the rate capability of the electrochemical system relative to the applied load. This can conveniently be expressed as a ratio between time constants: Θ/T, where T is the stoichiometric discharge time at the required load and Θ is a characteristic magnitude for the battery, depending on the transport and electrochemical rate constants and the geometry of the electrode configuration.
