Abstract

Viruses possessing a lipid-protein membrane are collectively referred to as enveloped viruses. Because of the ability to vary independently, the lipid and protein composition of the virus particles, they may be considered as model biological membranes. As such they offer a unique opportunity to study lipid-protein interactions as well as membrane-membrane interactions.
