Abstract

Conventional trace gas analyzers for pollution monitoring generally operate as gas samplers at a fixed site. In areas with large spatial variation it is therefore not always easy to determine how representative the measurements are. Furthermore, each trace substance such as SO2, NO2 or O3 requires a separate instrument, and these instruments may not be sensitive enough to determine low concentrations under clean air conditions. For example, a typical detection sensitivity for SO2 or NO2 is in the range of 1–2 ppb.
