Abstract
In considering the development of a vaccine to prevent otitis media, it is important to explore the rationale for such a vaccine, the epidemiology and spectrum of the disease, as well as its impact on child health, the etiology and pathogenesis of otitis media, especially as related to middle ear microbial pathogens, and the present status of otitis media vaccine research.
