Structural Amplification in Chemical Networks

Abstract

The reaction circuit for the cascade of vision is analyzed. We show that the architecture of this circuit is such that it can give rise to a rapid amplification for a moderate stimulus provided that a certain condition on the reaction constants and the concentrations of some of the involved chemicals is satisfied.
