A 125Te Mössbauer Study of Organotellurium Compounds

  • Chapter
Mössbauer Effect Methodology

Abstract

The investigation of tellurium compounds using the Mössbauer effect for 125Te is of some interest since such experiments allow a comparison with similar studies of compounds of tin and antimony. In the past much of the work on 125Te has been primarily concerned with the halides and oxides of tellurium. In recent years attention has turned to organo-tellurium compounds and a detailed study of Te(II) and Te(IV) complexes with thiourea and other sulphur containing ligands has been reported (1). Berry et al. (2) have reported 125Te Mössbauer data for a number of aryl tellurides and ditellurides and aryltellurium dihalides and trihalides while Smith et al. (3) have investigated the dialkyltellurium dihalides. Overlapping with these latter experiments, Jones et al. (4) have also studied the aryl tellurides and ditellurides and the organotellurium halides together with derivatives of the latter with pyridine and tetramethylthiourea. The diaryltellurium diacetates and dibenzoates have also been investigated (5).
