Abstract

Kassinin is a dodecapeptide of the tachykinin family (fig. 1) which has been found in the skin of the African frog Kassina senegalensis. It displays the same biological effects of the other tachykinins. However, it has a poor action on blood pressure and salivary secretion, but potently affects smooth muscles of the intestinal and genito-urinary tract, as well as ileal transport of electrolites (1).
