Care of the Infant and Child

  • Chapter
Family Medicine

Abstract

The joy of fostering the growth and well-being of a child is shared by the family physician and the child’s family. Care and concern for the unborn child should begin early in the family’s formation. If the physician has had the good fortune to practice with the same family through several generations, advice to previous generations may have already fostered good child care. If not, the premarital exam is a good time to discuss children and the couple’s expectation for the family.
