Abstract
A major motivation for this research has been to investigate whether or not the scale-space model allows for determination and detection of stable phenomena. In this chapter it will be demonstrated that such determination and detection are indeed possible, and that the suggested representation can be used for extracting regions of interest with associated stable scales from image in a solely bottom-up data-driven way. The treatment is based on the following assumption:
Structures, which are significant in scale-space, are likely to correspond to significant structures in the image.
