Cognitive Factors in Alcohol and Drug Use

  • Chapter
Determinants of Substance Abuse

Part of the book series: Perspectives on Individual Differences ((PIDF))

Abstract

Drug use is currently thought to be determined by the interaction of a host of biological, behavioral, and cognitive factors. This chapter will attempt to explicate the role of cognitive factors in drug use. Special emphasis will be placed on alcohol use as it is assumed that findings with alcohol are generally applicable to other drug use.
