Somitogenesis in the Frog

Abstract

We have investigated the changes that occur in the paraxial mesoderm of the frog during its maturation toward segmentation. This maturation is not entirely smooth, it is interrupted by landmark events, sudden discontinuous changes or initiations by which the tissue abruptly acquires new properties. We identify two such initiations, and they will be dealt with in reverse order, the last, first.
