Abstract

The use of photodynamic therapy has developed to include the management of advanced head and neck malignancies as well as providing a palliative option. This minimally invasive technology was able to cause significant reduction in tumour size and control growth leading to improvement in patient’s quality of life (i.e. breathing, swallowing and speaking, etc.). This technology was also effective in controlling pain and bleeding resulting from these advanced tumours. Our evidence proved that this technology can potentially improve the survival rate by 12–24 months in a cohort that has failed all conventional interventions and unlikely to survive beyond few months.
